When to start your Winter garden
Now is the perfect time to start your Winter garden if you would like to start your veggies from seed. This is because most seeds need at least 5 weeks to grow into a seedling ready to plant. If you would like to buy seedlings instead, March is a good time to plant most Winter seedlings into the garden so they can grow for at least 2 months before the daylight hours start to shorten. The days to maturity will determine when you need to plant. Crops need other mature before daylight hours dip below 10, and most can then be harvested slowly over a few weeks or even months during the coldest part of the year.
What order should I plant my Winter veggies in
Crops that take a long time to mature, such as leeks, parsnips and Brussel sprouts should be planted first, followed by carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, swedes, fennel, peas, shallots, kale, silverbeet, beetroot, Asian greens and salad greens like lettuce, spinach and rocket.
